Privacy Notice
Last updated: October 2026
JoyImpact NPC is committed to protecting your personal information. This notice explains your rights and how we handle your data in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).
1. Introduction
JoyImpact NPC is committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Notice explains how we collect, use, store, and protect your personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 (POPIA) and any other applicable South African privacy legislation. By using our website or engaging with our programmes, you acknowledge that you have read and understood this notice.
2. Responsible Party
JoyImpact NPC is the responsible party as defined under POPIA. If you have any questions about how we handle your personal information, or wish to exercise any of your rights, please contact us at: bronwyn@joyimpact.co.za. We will respond to all requests within a reasonable time and no later than 30 days.
3. Information We Collect
We may collect the following categories of personal information: (a) Contact details — your name, email address, and phone number when you submit a contact, volunteer, or partner enquiry form. (b) Donation information — if you donate via BackaBuddy or another platform, that platform's own privacy policy governs the processing of your payment details; we do not receive or store card or banking information. (c) Volunteer and partner details — information you provide when applying to volunteer or partner with us, including your skills, availability, and organisation name. (d) Programme recipient information — where we work with community partners to identify recipients of our programmes, we collect only the minimum information necessary and handle it with the utmost care and confidentiality.
4. How We Use Your Information
We use your personal information only for the purposes for which it was collected, including: responding to your enquiries and contact form submissions; processing and acknowledging donations; communicating with volunteers and partners about opportunities and updates; administering our programmes and ensuring recipients receive appropriate support; complying with our legal and regulatory obligations; and improving our website and services. We will not use your information for any purpose that is incompatible with the reason it was originally collected without first obtaining your consent.
5. Children's Personal Information
The protection of children is central to our mission. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 18 through our website without the consent of a parent or legal guardian. Where our programmes involve children, we collect only the minimum information necessary, shared with us by trusted community partners, schools, or social workers. We never publish photographs, names, or any identifying information about child recipients without explicit written consent from a parent or guardian. All such information is stored securely and accessed only by authorised JoyImpact personnel.
6. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information to third parties. We may share your information in the following limited circumstances: with service providers who assist us in operating our website or programmes (such as email delivery services), who are bound by confidentiality obligations; with community partners and social workers solely for the purpose of delivering our programmes; where required by law, court order, or regulatory authority; or with your explicit consent. Any third party with whom we share information is required to handle it in accordance with POPIA and our instructions.
7. Storage and Security
We take reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect your personal information against unauthorised access, loss, misuse, or alteration. Your information is stored on secure servers and access is restricted to authorised personnel only. While we strive to protect your personal information, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is completely secure. We encourage you to contact us immediately if you suspect any unauthorised use of your information.
8. Retention of Information
We retain your personal information only for as long as is necessary to fulfil the purpose for which it was collected, or as required by law. Contact and enquiry records are typically retained for up to 3 years. Volunteer and partner records are retained for the duration of the relationship and up to 2 years thereafter. Donation records may be retained for up to 7 years for accounting and legal compliance purposes. Once information is no longer needed, we securely delete or anonymise it.
9. Your Rights Under POPIA
You have the following rights regarding your personal information: the right to be notified that we are collecting your information; the right to access the personal information we hold about you; the right to request correction of inaccurate or incomplete information; the right to request deletion of your information (subject to legal retention requirements); the right to object to the processing of your information; and the right to lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator of South Africa (www.justice.gov.za/inforeg). To exercise any of these rights, please contact us at bronwyn@joyimpact.co.za. We will respond within 30 days.
